Robyn Albritton: Clean Oceans

Robyn joins us to discuss the Ocean Conservancy International Coastal Cleanup efforts in 2020 – in this time of a pandemic – when every effort makes such a difference for our oceans.

Robyn is a Senior Manager at Ocean Conservancy – a nonprofit environmental advocacy group based in Washington, D.C., United States.

The organization helps formulate ocean policy at the federal and state government levels based on peer reviewed science.

Our ocean unifies our world like nothing else. And saving it from ongoing threats is a cause that affects us all. Ocean Conservancy is on the front lines of ocean protection, investing in research, leadership and advocacy that advances science-based solutions that work.

Calling on Yacht Clubs, Marina’s, Sailing Associations and Regattas – get on out there and do your part!

Where safe, small cleanups can happen, volunteers like you and I are tracking their impact, collecting important data on the amount and types of trash collected and submitting it all through Ocean Conservancy’s app, Clean Swell.

First Step: Download the Clean Swell App

Head out to your favorite beach, creek, lake or cul-de-sac and use the app to easily record each item of trash you collect. Then share your effort with family and friends.

With Clean Swell, simply “Start Collecting” trash wherever you are around the world and the data you collect will instantaneously upload to Ocean Conservancy’s global ocean trash database. These data deliver a global snapshot of ocean trash, providing researchers and policy-makers insight to inform solutions.

Join the thousands of volunteers around the planet who are working for a cleaner ocean by picking up the millions of pounds of trash that wash onto beaches around the world.

Not limited to one day, one month but anytime you are inspired and prepared

Year round check out your Cleanup history, so anytime, anywhere you can see the impact you’ve had on making our ocean a cleaner and healthier ecosystem.

Take Action to Stem the Tide of Ocean Plastics

Each year an estimated 8 million metric tons of plastic waste enter the ocean threatening marine life and coastal ecosystems. The United States makes a significant contribution to this problem and we need the Federal government to act now to protect our ocean.

And for our Sports Fans…. a big hitter gets behind clean oceans

The San Francisco Giants chose Hunter Pence as their Roberto Clemente Award nominee for 2020, Major League Baseball’s (MLB) annual recognition of the MLB player who best represents the game through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field. A World Champion with the Giants in 2012 and 2014, Pence takes helping the community as seriously as studying NL West opponents. Now he is doing his part to take on climate change and ocean plastics.
