Karen Lile vacations in the British Virgin Islands each year. A typical day might be a downwind sail from Virgin Gorda to Beef Island or sailing upwind in the Sir Francis Drake Channel from Norman Island to the Indians to Cooper Island. Catamaran’s and monohulls are equally fun, each with their own pros and cons. Lile has sailed in the Virgin Islands for 9 consecutive years (skipping 2020 during pandemic). Sometimes it’s a beautiful day, 10-15 knots wind, 1-2 foot waves, 70-80 degrees. At other times, there is a little squall or a tropical wave with thunder and lightening. Hurricanes are avoided.
Here are 4 conversations between co-host Rick Tittle in San Francisco and Karen Lile that were broadcast live on Sports Byline during her trip.
Each show begins with a 3 min spotlight, not always related to the live broadcast. Spotlights feature Charlie Deist (Show 171), Captain Nelson Booth (Show 172), Walt Raineri (Show 173), and Bill Dinger (Show 174). The conversation between Rick and Karen features Karen Lile describing the experience of sailing and snorkeling, discovering underwater ship wrecks, a thunder and lightening storm, and lazy days after attaching the boat to a mooring ball.
