Monica lives in Sausalito with her sailor-husband, Captain Jay Grant. Whereas Jay is a life-long sailor, Monica came to the sport quite late and had her first sailing experience as an adult on the waters of Queensland, Australia’s Sunshine Coast.
In 2015, Monica and Jay bought their own boat, a 1986 Tayana 37, Banyandah, and thus began Monica’s real sailing life. She has since sailed up and down the USA East Coast three times, spent a summer cooking aboard a charter boat in Maine, and most recently sailed to Mexico as cook aboard Call of the Sea’s schooner Seaward.
Monica has also been involved in the operations side of Call of the Sea and for the past five years worked with Summer Sailstice. Prior to sailing to Mexico she worked with Latitude 38, as the Marketing Administrator. She has also written numerous stories and news reports for the magazine.
