Pete is not only an amazing sailor and designer, but he was involved in writing the AC72 rule used in the 2013 America’s Cup, and in writing the AC62 rule that was released June 2014 for the 2017 America’s Cup.

Newport to Ensenada was the first run April 23, 1948. Its mission has always been to promote ocean racing in California and has worked over the years to accommodate sailors of all kinds of craft, large and small, fast and those who race for the last to finish trophy. Through the ’70s and ’80s, more than 450 boats regularly competed. Today, there are more than 40 classes.  
The AC45 will compete in the new unlimited class, added only two years ago to make sure boats with the latest technology and style were able to race.

Pete, as a partner in Melvin and Morelli Design and Engineering, Inc., built the 60-foot catamaran Stars and Stripes, that set the N2E fastest elapsed time record in 1998. That record was only broken in 2016, by Orion, an ORMA70.
