SAILING BACKGROUND & SUMMARY
Gerard grew-up in Ireland and learned to sail and race in Dublin in the mid-90’s. Once he caught the sailing bug on a sailing cruise to Scotland, he threw himself into learning and developing his racing skills by racing every week and on as wide a variety of boats as possible. He has continued this since moving to San Francisco in 1997.
Gerard has developed his skills greatly since then and he says his passion and interest in racing far exceeds his skill level but it’s a major part of his life. He is your typical enthusiastic weekend warrior racer! He is active in two yacht clubs – South Beach YC and St. Francis YC. He has and continues to contribute to the sport of sailing by helping plan and run races and he considers it as his way of giving back to the sport which has given him so much.
