Gary Green

Gary Green has been a sailor for over 35 years and has served as the commodore of five different yacht clubs and associations. Most recently, he was commodore in 2018 of Southern California Yachting Association. SCYA is the umbrella organization servingover 90 yacht clubs and other boating associations throughout Southern California, Arizona and Nevada. SCYA annually holds the Midwinter Regatta, the largest regatta in North America with over 600 boats and thousands of sailors competing at 25 or more venues up and down the southern California coast. SCYA also presents seminars on medical emergencies at sea and club membership and sponsors an annual women’s boating clinic. 

Gary has owned several different sailboats over the years, the most recent being a Beneteau First 44.7 sailboat which, unfortunately, sank recently while sailing offshore in Mexico. Together with his wife, Rosalie, he has raced his boats extensively, including numerous Newport to Ensenada races and has sailed in the past as far as Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. They have also bare-boat chartered sailboats in different parts of the world, including the Caribbean and Tahiti. Gary has also made several other offshore passages helping to deliver friends’ boats. 

Gary is a retired attorney, having practiced insurance law for 40 years. He lives with his wife and two cats in San Pedro, California.
