Bruce Chrisp, Vallejo Yacht Club & Musicians of Oakland Symphony

Tune-In at 9:37am and 3:37pm PDT to hear the Sail Sport Talk Recognition Spotlight and interview of Bruce Chrisp on July 7, 2020. You can listen on http://www.sportsbyline.com or on the Sports Byline Channel at iHeart Radio, Tune In Radio, Stitcher and over 200 Radio stations across the US and on the American Forces Network on 500 Radio Stations in 168 countries.

Below is a recording of the live show. Bruce’s spotlight begins at 11:22 on the timeline.

Karen: This is Karen Lile of Sail Sport Talk and I am here with Bruce Chrisp of the Vallejo Yacht Club in California. Bruce, you texted me a link to a video with the Musician’s of the Oakland Symphony performing Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land”, just as you were going out sailing. I loved it! How did you do that performance during the pandemic, with the Symphony Season cancelled and every musician staying in place in their own home?

Bruce: Each of the 44 musicians recorded their audio and video at home, or in some cases even hiked out into the forest with their instruments to record. They then uploaded their audio and video files while they are playing and singing. I took those 176 files, and edited, mixed and mastered them into our finished video, with the goal of making it sound like we were playing in the same room together using Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro on my iMac Computer. Each of the musicians were paid for their time to record and are hoping to do more of these videos in the near future.

Karen: Let’s listen to the Bruce Chrisp arrangement of This Land is Your Land:  Play video above.

Karen: Bruce, thank you so much for sharing that. I especially loved that the video performance was made possible by the Calvin Simmons Center for the Performing Arts, Courtesy of Conway B. Jones, Jr. To our listeners, visit sailsporttalk.com to see this great video and hear the entire song.
