Racing Around the World Winter 2023

Karen in London and Patti in San Francisco discuss round the world racing Winter 2023.

Ocean Globe Race  – ongoing 

Started in Southhampton months ago.

Maiden is holding on to 6th place with 14 boats still in the race headed to Auckland – several have already landed. The italian team Translated 9-  landing first.

Maiden raced in this race in 1989 – and half a dozen classics are in this race.

This is a grueling race around the bottom of the globe 

SAIL GP Season 4 around the world –

Next event is JAN 13-14 in Abu Dhabi

They started in Chicago, LA , Saint Tropez, Andalusia-Cadiz and last weekend December 9-10th, 2023 in Dubai.

Then Christchurch, New Zealand!, Bermuda, Halifax and the final

Competitions ends here in San Francisco mid July 2024

In the lead Australia, followed by Denmark and New Zealand

10 international teams with the US in 5th place as of now.

Olympics 2024 are based in Paris –

Opening Ceremony is July 26, 2024 in Paris

The sailing competition will take place in Marsielle starting 7/28 – over 12 days

July 27-30: 4 days of surfing competition will happen of the islands off Tahiti – on the Teahupo’o Wave

Clipper Round the World Race

Headed to Australia at this moment in time for 3 city destinations that will last thru January 2024.

Eleven international teams of roughly 21 crew per72 foot long crafts with expert Skippers leading the way. That is over 700 crew meeting up and celebrating in every port. Check out the route an get down to the harbor to be part of the fun.

Started in late August 2023 – primarily amatuer ocean racers – competing in country after country – ending up in Scotland in July 2024.
