Jan Pachner, YCCS

Jan Pachner is the Secretary General of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and the One Ocean Foundation. The YCCS, located in the very famous Porto Cervo in the North of Sardinia island, Italy, organises international sailing regattas, including world championships, for a wide range of boats and has specific experience with superyachts and maxi yachts. The YCCS also organises regattas in collaboration with top shipyards such as Nautor’s Swan, Perini Navi and Southern Wind.  Back in 1981 the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda launched the first Italian challenge for the America’s Cup. Just two years later, the 12-Metre rated Azzurra came a triumphant third in the qualifying regattas for the finals in Newport Rhode Island.  Azzurra became a symbol for Italy’s potential in top-level competitive sailing and has been followed closely by fans at home.

The 2019 season saw more than 10 regattas on the calendar including the Star World Championship and the 12th edition of the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta. September hosted the 30th edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and the final leg of the 52 Super Series circuit, where Azzurra, the TP52 flying the YCCS burgee, won the most high level pro-sailing championship. In addition to a busy sporting calendar, the YCCS also promotes activities relating to the YCCS Sailing School and the One Ocean Foundation, created in March 2018 from an environmental sustainability project launched in 2017 to mark the Club’s 50th anniversary.
