Guest Adventurer Randall von Wedel

Randall von Wedel is a Life member of the Corinthian Yacht Club of San Francisco located in Tiburon, CA and a friend of the Master Mariners Association, with whom he has raced wooden boats starting with his own Nunes Hurrcane 30 starting in 1979.

Randall raced Master Mariners regattas on the Bay and offshore on Gene Buck’s Farallon clipper ‘Ouessant’ and then later raced on the 60′ 1904 English teak cutter, the ‘Grissette’ in the 1990s, right up to 1996 when the Master Mariners Wooden Boat Show began at the Corinthian. The show was founded by Craig Swayne, another Corinthian life member who remains on the Board of the Master Mariners Benevolent Foundation.

Randall worked with Craig and other ardent Corinthians to expand the Wooden Boat Show through the 1990s. The show attracts over 500 public visitors every year whose entrance fees contribute to the Master Mariner Benevolent Foundation fund to support young shipwright apprenticeships and other worthy wooden boat projects around the bay, including contributions to the rebuilding and maintenance of the 1892 original Corinthian flagship, Freda.

Randal spends his summers in various ports of Maine – supporting, researching and engaging with wooden boat organizations and attending boating festivals.
