Will Stokely

Will Stokely grew up on the coast in South Devon and his father had a passion for the sea so he naturally got into sailing at a young age on both dinghies and the beautiful Morgan Giles yachts owned by the Navy (for whom his father was a civilian lecturer).  Taking part in many races ‘around the cans’ and passage races along the Devon and Cornwall coast or across the channel to France, Will became a competent sailor.

His involvement in sailing stopped when he went to University and started his career and a family however, in 2015, an article about the Clipper Race caught his eye and reignited the desire to sail and enticed him into the challenge of becoming an international ocean racer.

Initially only signing up to do leg 1 in the 2017-18 Clipper Race, Will raced as part of the crew on Visit Seattle.  Arriving into Uruguay, Will realised that one leg wasn’t quite enough and that the trade wind sailing hadn’t quite tested his limits to the extent that he wanted so, before he left Uruguay, he signed up for leg 6, The Mighty Pacific leg.   Experiencing 15m waves and 100knot winds in a North Pacific storm were highlights of an adventure which helped Will make significant changes in his life and re-established the self-belief and confidence that had been absent for some years.

At the end of the race he joined Clipper Ventures in the Recruitment Team and, a year or so later, moved into the Commercial Team.
