John Shannon on Ephemerisle in the California Delta

Listen in on our interview with John Shannon – a CPA on dry land – an artist on the water. If you have heard of Burning Man – think of a gathering on the water – and celebrating the boating life and arts.

In 2016, John Shannon returned from living abroad to find old land friends boating with the Washed Up Yacht Club. He began sailing with WUYC folks and was asked to bring a dock float raft island to Ephemerisle deep in the Delta with little experience and no vessel and he had a very challenging time.

John has since acquired a sailboat (1976 C&C 29, s/v Red Witch) with a friend and graduated to a barge island for Ephemerisle (Flatland). Building boating community sailing and helping preserve water access have become passions that he dedicates much of my free time to.

The Delta provides the canvas for the gathering of boaters – creating a chain of inter-connected hubs.
